Who would have thought I’d become even busier during my first Covid19
Lock-down experience. Taipei went into level-3 lockdown right at the start of June after the first community spreading incident in nearly a year. Since then my girlfriend Chia and myself have been constrained to our apartment sitting above one of Taipei's previously bustling night markets. Now with only the occasional trip out for groceries or snacks at 7/11, like many we have had to adapt to life indoors.
Just as I was starting to settle in and establish myself here in Taiwan, working hard to put together collaborations and connections, it has been an enormous blow to see all of my performances and activities cancelled for the next three months - at least.
However I always try to find the best in any situation. One thing that always drives me crazy is when I hear people say they are “bored”. If anything, over the last 5 years I have always felt there is never enough time in the day. I quickly put together a list of goals and things I wanted to achieve now that this slab of time had opened up.
I decided to focus on my content. I moved up my EP as a priority, working on my own music for a change. Immersed myself in the world of TIK TOK reaching out to new audiences and creators from all over the world. I even managed to keep song-writing sessions going whether it be online or with very small sessions at the studio. It’s been truly rewarding to see the progress of all this work just in this short month.
Now having booked a ticket home back to New Zealand to see my family for six months in September, it has motivated me even more to make the most of the time I have left :)
I have also come to many realizations during this time at home.
Firstly, the crazy amount of time we spend each day running around from place to place. Sometimes It’s easier to just stay in one place and stay focused.
A respect for my own time. As the line between work and rest becomes blurred, it’s up to you to find a healthy balance.
Not everything has to be a big deal! I always used to stress about big events or big projects coming up. But sometimes all we can do is just chip away at things a little at a time. Take joy in the process rather than stressing about the final result.
And most importantly, adapting. It has by no means been easy, but when things don’t work out the way you planned - even prior to covid - all we can do is focus on the now and do what we can to make it better :).
Much love to all you amazing people
Stay healthy and know you are not alone.
